‘Fan 101′: New Book Helps Sports Fans and Non-Fans Understand Each Other.
SAN DIEGO, April 18 — Craig Bender helps readers better communicate and understand the role sports play in their relationships through a detailed look at why people do or do not like sports in his new book, “Sports Fan 101: Score the Balance in your Relationship” (now available through AuthorHouse).
“Sports Fan 101″ enlightens non-sports fans as to why the people they care about act the way they do when it comes to sports. “Can being a sports fan be an addiction?” asks Bender. “What role do sports play in many people’s lives? Have you ever wanted to know what’s going on in a sports fan’s mind as he sits on the couch, beer in one hand and remote control in the other?” Likewise, the book helps sports fans see the world through the eyes of a non-fan and understand the myriad reasons why they may not like sports.
“Have you ever been in a relationship where one person likes to watch sports and the other doesn’t?” says Bender. “Has it ever been one of those constant annoyances that never really went away? Does it feel like sports are on TV all the time? It’s because they are, and sports fans love every bit of it! So how can we all get along?”
Bender answers that question in his book by providing ways to minimize the stress on both sides of the equation. He emphasizes communication, compromise and focusing on the priorities in life to prevent sports from interfering with an otherwise healthy relationship. “By getting to know sports fans better, it will give [non-sports fans] the secret to letting sports work for them, instead of against them,” he says.
Bender was born in New Jersey, but moved to Southern California when he was two years old. He currently lives in San Diego and works as a pharmaceutical representative for Abbott Animal Health. He is an avid sports fan and played many different sports during his childhood. He wrote this book to help his mother better understand his love for sports. “Sports Fan 101″ is his first book.
