C. Suarès, Award-Winning Magazine Designer, Goes Blue, White and Red in Exciting Re-Design
New York, N.Y., April 19, 2007 – Louis Kyle, Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of FrancePress LLC, a New York, N.Y.-based publisher of France Today: The Magazine of French Travel and Culture, America’s leading English-language monthly magazine covering French travel and culture, announced the launch of a newly expanded and redesigned France-Amérique, which is America’s only French-language news, culture and community publication for Francophones and Francophiles alike. [For more information, log onto: www.france-amerique.com and www.francetoday.com] France-Amerique traces its roots back to Le Courrier des États-Unis, a broadsheet for French officers printed during the American Revolution, according to Kyle, who added the current France-Amérique title was first launched in 1943 by General Charles de Gaulle’s France libre [Free France] political party during World War II=”Ti.
Beginning with its April 12, 2007 debut issue, the bi-monthly France-Amérique newspaper will incorporate the French language travel and cultural coverage that formerly appeared in its Journal Français title, according to Kyle, who added that the latest news analysis from Le Figaro, France’s leading daily newspaper, will also continue to appear in the newly expanded France-Amérique: Le journal français des États-Unis.. FrancePress LLC Announces Launch of Newly Designed and Expanded France-Amérique Newspaper. Designed in bold tints of blue, white and red, Kyle said, “With France-Amérique’s new, tabloid-sized redesign, we will continue to feature an even wider assortment of timely news analysis and features from our team of distinguished journalists based in the United States and France as well as relevant news from Le Figaro.”
Kyle said, “Since acquiring FrancePress LLC in 2005, our editorial team has concentrated on improving and expanding our coverage of France and Francophile topics that are of longstanding interest to our loyal readers. First, in 2006, we redesigned France Today, whose circulation and advertising is stronger than ever and growing. Next, over the past nine months, we examined the natural synergies between Journal Français and France-Amérique and decided that a newly redesigned and expanded France-Amérique made a great journalistic marriage. Finally, we are thrilled by the innovative design work of J. C. Suarès, whose awards include redesigns for Variety, New York and Publisher’s Weekly, who focused on the best qualities of Journal Français and France-Amérique.”
Kyle added that Journal Français readers would be given full credit for their existing subscriptions and all would automatically receive the new France-Amérique, beginning with its debut issue. Kyle also said he wanted to especially thank all the readers and advertisers for their support of Journal Français over the years.
The debut issue, featuring a lead story on the new high-speed TGV train and the first in an exclusive three-part series on the 2007 French Presidential elections, will reach subscribers and hit newsstands beginning in mid-April. In addition, France-Amérique will offer new feature sections entitled: La Quinzaine, including news from Le Figaro; Culture, covering history, gastronomy, travel, literature, cinema, trends and more; and La Vie Franco-Americaine, offering a roundup of coming U.S.-based events of interest to Francophones and Francophiles.
Drawing on the French and American offices of FrancePress LLC, which has bureaus in New York, San Francisco and Paris, Kyle noted that a talented French-American team of writers and contributors are working under the direction of France-Amérique Editor-in-Chief Pascale Richard, a veteran French newspaper and magazine journalist and author, who has worked for Le Monde, Madame Figaro, and French L’Officiel. Leading the editorial team in New York, Richard will also coordinate efforts of Anne Sengès, San Francisco bureau chief and Managing Editor of France Today. Richard will also work closely with veteran Paris-based correspondent Judy Fayard, who was recently named by FrancePress LLC as Editor-in-Chief of France Today. Fayard, who also serves as a cultural correspondent for The Wall Street Journal Europe, previously served as managing editor of Where Paris, and before that was the Paris bureau chief for Fairchild Publications.
On behalf of France-Améerique’seditorial team, Richard said, “We are extremely thrilled with all the editorial, pictorial and graphic opportunities that come with the new design created by J.C. Suarès. Our team of full-time and independent journalists from across America as well as in France is excited about bringing the kind of news analysis and feature and lifestyle stories that will delight both our native French readers as well as Newly Designed and Expanded France Amérique our American Francophile friends and French language teachers and academics across the U.S.A.” Richard noted that the “Accent Francais” column, which focuses on grammatical and literary aspects of the French language, will be carried over into the new tabloid-format from the Journal Français.
Martine Gérard, Director of Marketing & Circulation, FrancePress LLC, said, “We are very confident that our loyal readers and advertisers will feel and see all the excitement in the new France-Amérique design, which will be bigger and better than ever. At the same time, we are also undertaking a new national circulation and newsstand distribution drive and adding to our already strong distribution of France-Amérique in business- and first-class lounges for leading U.S. and international airlines in America’s gateway airports such as New York, Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and San Francisco.”
The cover price of the newly expanded and re-designed France-Amérique is $3.50 a copy and $50 for an annual subscription for all 23 issues, with national distribution at better newsstands and bookstores around the country; a newly revived website – www.france-amerique.com – is also to be launched on April 12, 2007.
