TIME OUT NEW YORK BOXES IN CROSSWORD SPECIALIST BRENDAN EMMETT
New Puzzle to Debut in TONY’s June 21 “Games” Issue
New York, NY— June 19, 2007-––Puzzle fans, take note! Master constructor of modern quizzing masterpieces Brendan Emmett Quigley has been tapped to pen Time Out New York’s (TONY) first weekly crossword puzzle. The Quigley quiz will debut on June 21, in an issue of TONY devoted to all manner of diversions, distractions and brainteasers. Quigley’s puzzles will serve as the centerpiece for a weekly Games page in TONY that will also offer New York–centric pop-culture riddles.
Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, Quigley, is a square-graph wunderkind, known for his versatility, his cunning jeux de mots and his appeal to non-geriatric paper-gamers, garnering him a wallop of verbal butt-pats within the puzzle community. “Time Out New York is elated to have nabbed Quigley,” says editor-in-chief Brian Farnham. “He’s a rock-star puzzle maker.”
TONY’s first weekly crossword will debut in the upcoming Games issue, which will boast eight pages of mind-scramblers, including photo puzzles, a New York–themed cryptic from Emily Cox and Henry Rathvon and tips on how to “pimp” your boardgame night.
The Games issue will have a three-way split cover featuring a multipart puzzle, also penned by Quigley. Passionate puzzlers who complete the three-part crossword will be placed in a grand prize drawing, where a lucky winner will get to take home a series of gifts including dinner for four.
“It’s fun to be in an environment where everything goes, Quigley says. “TONY covers the full spectrum of art and entertainment, and I can’t wait to get into that world of New York pop.”
About TONY—Since 1995, Time Out New York (TONY) has provided New Yorkers with comprehensive information on how to best spend their free time, from which films and plays to see, to where to eat, drink and shop. The magazine launched with the goal of integrating into the fabric of the city; now, TONY actually shapes that fabric with its weekly presentation of more than 2,000 things to do.
